Make the Backyard Your Favorite Room
A back patio is where summer actually happens: grilling, fire pits, morning coffee, and late nights with friends. Creative Concrete builds concrete patios all over the Twin Cities, from simple broom-finished slabs to fully stamped designs that look like slate, stone, or wood.
Why Concrete Over Pavers or a Deck?
Pavers shift and settle over time, and weeds love the gaps between them. Wood decks need staining, sealing, and board replacement. A concrete patio is one continuous surface, so there’s nowhere for weeds to sneak through and nothing to heave out of place after a hard winter. Want the look of pavers without the headaches? That’s exactly what stamped concrete does. Read more in Stamped Concrete vs. Paver Patios and our post on the benefits of a concrete patio.
Designing a Back Patio That Fits Your Yard
- Size it for how you’ll use it. A dining table, grill, and a few lounge chairs take up more room than people expect. We’ll help you map it out before we pour.
- Connect it to the house. Patios feel best when they flow right off the back door. Add steps or a walkway if there’s a grade change.
- Consider sun and shade. Lighter colors stay cooler underfoot on south-facing patios.
- Go beyond the rectangle. Curves and custom shapes can wrap around trees, garden beds, or a fire pit area.
- Keep water moving. We slope every patio away from your foundation.
We can add all kinds of features and amenities to your patio: a fire pit, a gas grill, a natural gas line, lights, pergolas, and more. We can also create a raised patio or expand your existing back patio to accommodate a lounge area. Just tell us what you’d like and we can probably make it happen.
Concrete Back Patio FAQs
How long does it take to install a concrete back patio? Most residential patios are formed and poured in a few days, weather permitting. Curing takes a bit longer before you set heavy furniture on it.
Can you replace my old, cracked patio? Absolutely. See our patio replacement page for details.
Will stamped concrete be slippery? The textures in most stamped patterns add grip, and we can add slip-resistant additives to the sealer.
Why do you cut lines into the concrete? Those are control joints, and they help keep cracking where it belongs. Learn more in Why Is Saw Cutting Important?
